CALL FOR ABSTRACTS - Working Group “Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art”

The 2013 Academic Workshops of the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of Universidad de la República Oriental del Uruguay, calls for papers for the Working Group of “Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art”
The Academic Workshops will take place in Montevideo, Uruguay, on October 9th, 10th and 11th, 2013
Coordinators: Mónica Herrera Noguera and Fernando Vilmer Suárez
Abstract submission deadline:
Fundamental goal: To discuss the relationship between aesthetics -as well as that of the art related to the sensitive and sentimental variables- and the philosophy of art within the framework of the contemporary artworld.
Summary:
During the so-called period of primacy of conceptual art, aesthetics was reduced to, at best, anti-aesthetics. Nowadays, the impact of the new media as well as that of the new methods of artistic production, the new languages and the previous needs of aesthetics, demand a new approach to the philosophy of art, the critic and the spaces of valuation, circulation and exhibition of art, as well as humans within the artworld. Furthermore, this demand should be seen in the light of the overwhelming presence of images, sounds and commodities, as well as the possibilities of producing sensations and the aesthetically oriented production. Thus, facing an artworld full of ambiguous discourse, increasingly sophisticated abilities to stimulate our senses, and a struggle between art criticism and the unrestricted access to a kind of experience which may not be considered as part of cultural accumulation or expressive needs which are deliberately ignored.
